Swedish website/newspaper Boras Tidning has weighed in with the first reviews of the new Kaliber Imprint, which includes Jim Thompson's The Grifters and my debut novel Psychosomatic.
Did the reviewer like it? I have no fucking idea. Kind of? Whatever. But I loved this (thanks to Jacob Harnqvists for the translation):
"Maybe that's just what Smith wanted to accomplish. A kind of loving sneer at the pulp-genre. If that was his purpose, he definitely succeeded. Otherwise, not."
So...was that my purpose? No fun if I tell you. I'll leave it in the dark.

Good for you. I like it much more when the author lets the reader decide. Hell, the author just got finished sharing 70K-90K words with you, straight from his brain. Shouldn't that be enough? Shouldn't the story and its themes, messages or what-have-you be self apparent? It's the reader's turn to open his pie hole and move the discussion forward. It's not much fun the other way.

One time, I knew this guy who sneered at something.
And he die.
True story.
